Restoration scope documentation for Allstate water and mold claims

Allstate is the second-largest US homeowners insurer and one of the three carriers we work most often in the St. Louis metro, alongside State Farm and American Family. The carrier is headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois, with a strong captive-agent footprint across the metro and on both sides of the river. What sets the Allstate file apart from the rest of our weekly mix is the vendor-network layer. Allstate manages a property-restoration network through Alacrity Solutions, and the first thing a homeowner often hears after first notice of loss is a suggestion to use a network contractor. That suggestion is not a coverage condition. Policyholders retain the right to choose their own licensed contractor.

The typical Allstate homeowner we work with in St. Louis County or the Metro East carries a flat all-perils deductible between $1,000 and $2,500, often paired with a separate percentage wind/hail deductible (commonly 1% to 2% of Coverage A) on properties in the Midwest hail belt. Industry references to NAIC complaint data have historically tracked Allstate’s homeowners complaint index slightly above 1.0, with claims-handling disputes the most common category, which is part of why scope documentation discipline matters more on this carrier than on most.

What we see most on Allstate jobs

The Allstate water losses on our schedule are dominated by sudden-event interior failures: burst pipes, supply lines, dishwasher and washer hose failures, and water heater discharges. After spring and summer storms, we see roof breaches feeding water into the upper floors of homes across the metro, and storm-driven envelope failures on the older brick stock in Webster Groves, Maplewood, and parts of Clayton. Allstate’s base policy excludes surface flooding, sewer/drain backup, and gradual leaks, so the first thing we confirm on any Allstate basement call is whether the homeowner carries the optional Water Backup endorsement.

On the mold side, the files that move cleanest on Allstate are ones where the homeowner carries the Mold/Fungi endorsement. The base policy mold coverage is narrow and capped, and the endorsement can extend coverage to mold from high humidity, which is normally excluded under ISO HO-3. We ask every Allstate policyholder to pull their declarations page before we scope a mold remediation.

Their claim process, what to expect

Allstate runs a mix of in-house staff adjusters and independents, with Alacrity Solutions providing vendor management and some specialty claims handling. Industry-reported turnaround on a non-CAT scope agreement runs roughly seven to twenty-one business days. The carrier accepts Xactimate as the industry standard with Allstate-specific price list controls applied. We write to those controls every time and have not had to re-export an Allstate scope for format reasons in years.

Direct billing on Allstate jobs is most commonly available through Alacrity-network contractors. Gateway is not enrolled in the Allstate vendor network. The standard payment path on a Gateway-handled Allstate claim is a reimbursement model: Allstate issues payment to the insured (and mortgagee where applicable), and the insured pays us. We coordinate with the assigned adjuster on-site to keep the workflow clean and the scope agreement moving.

Mold coverage with Allstate

Allstate’s base HO policy mold coverage is typically narrow and capped, and consumer-facing summaries point to the Mold/Fungi endorsement as the recommended add-on for meaningful sublimits. Per those references, the endorsement can extend coverage beyond standard ISO HO-3 mold exclusions, including mold related to high humidity. Specific sublimits vary by state filing and the limit selected, so verify your own policy declarations rather than relying on a national figure.

What we document differently on Allstate mold files: we test before we scope with a third-party lab, we tie the underlying water event to the mold growth on a timeline, and we keep the air-quality report and source-of-loss photos in the file from day one. That documentation discipline is what holds up against the carrier’s maintenance-related and gradual-leak exclusions if the file gets a second look.

The preferred-contractor question

Allstate’s vendor network operates through Alacrity Solutions, and you are free to use a network contractor if you prefer. You are equally free to choose any licensed contractor, including Gateway. Allstate guarantees workmanship on repairs completed by network contractors per the carrier’s public materials. The trade-off is that the carrier-managed workflow gives the network more leverage over scope decisions. Choosing your own contractor preserves your control over the scope and the schedule.

Frequently asked

Do I have to use an Alacrity Solutions contractor on my Allstate claim?

No. Allstate’s vendor network operates via Alacrity Solutions, and policyholders retain the right to choose their own licensed contractor. Network contractors get a carrier workmanship guarantee, but they also work inside a carrier-managed scope workflow. Choosing your own contractor preserves your control over scope decisions.

Will Allstate direct-bill Gateway?

The standard path on a Gateway-handled Allstate claim is a reimbursement model. Allstate issues payment to the insured (and mortgagee where applicable), and the insured pays us. Direct billing is most commonly available through Alacrity-network contractors. We make the reimbursement workflow clean by writing the file to the carrier’s documentation expectations.

How long do Allstate water claims take to pay?

Industry-reported norm is roughly seven to twenty-one business days from scope agreement to payment on non-catastrophe losses. Catastrophe weeks extend that. The local captive agent network in the St. Louis metro typically speeds first notice of loss intake, which helps the overall cycle.

Does Allstate cover mold from high humidity?

The base policy mold coverage is narrow and excludes most non-named-peril mold. Allstate’s Mold/Fungi endorsement can extend coverage to high-humidity mold per public references, with sublimits varying by state filing and the limit selected. Verify your declarations page for your specific coverage rather than assuming a national figure.
